Important Information
Tips for using On-Line Quoting:
- This facility is extremely competitive for standard accounts. While on-line quoting is not most effective for the harder to place accounts, Mercator excels at these tougher accounts. Please refer to the Account Guidelines below, and let us know if you need assistance with a non-standard account. You can submit accounts to us any way you choose.
- If you want alternative proposals from other markets please see the Alternative Proposals section below. We have the markets to meet your needs.
- If you have a question about an account, including whether it is a good fit for this on-line approach, please contact one of your Mercator Risk Services representatives by calling or emailing our office.
- If you do not want to enter an account please email or fax it to us. We will do it for you, and provide competitive terms quickly.

- If you don.t have our application: Use what you have, and do the best you can. With some basic information we can provide a general indication subject to additional information.
- If you get declined, kicked out or otherwise thwarted by technology, please do not despair! Contact a Mercator representative for information and assistance. We have quite a few markets, and more primitive (& reliable) methods of getting you a quote quickly.
Account Guidelines
This underwriting facility is efficient for standard accounts, but it will not be effective for some complex and non-standard accounts. Here are some general guidelines underwriters are looking for to assist you in determining fit.
- Less than 50 agents/brokers
- More than 65% of commission income from residential sales
- Less than 10% of commission income from construction/development activities, or a single builder
- Average property value sold less than $600,000
- No errors and omissions claims in the past five years
- Experienced principals
Types of accounts that are better handled off-line (manually) include the following:
- Accounts with claims
- Sale of owned property.
- Accounts located in: AL, AK, CA, CO, IA, LA, HI, KY, NE, NM, TN, TX
- Financially distressed accounts, including bankruptcy
- Accounts with adverse claim experience or disciplinary actions
- Large accounts -- 50+ agents/brokers
Alternative Proposals
We can provide proposals from other markets for comparison purposes. The degree of competitiveness will vary based on the account, and the response time is dependent on the underwriter in question. Submissions can be submitted by email or fax (or even regular mail) if you prefer not to use the On-line Quoting system.
